TR7 Back Deck

I need to refinish the back deck in my TR7. Its the fiber board tray behind the seats.

Anyone have any expirience doing this yet? What did you use?

I was thinking of painting it with fiberglass resin, letting it dry, then black adhesive paint, then applying black flocking to it.

I doubt I am good enough to reapply the same kind of black leather fabric that I removed. I dont think I can get it to stretch.

Mine was done by putting a layer of polyester wadding, then black vinyl on top. It now houses the CONES OF DOOM (very loud speakers).

On each of the FHCs I have owned, that shelf hase been different.

I was recently offered, by the auto trimmer, a fiberglass replacement
for that tray, imported from the UK.
It was rather expensive by the time it got to Oz, so I reinforced
mine with a bit of light plywood, but for UK owners, there is a
replacement around somewhere.

The vinyl on mine has gone saggy and looks awful. I have thought about flocking and have a flocking gun so that's always an option.
Has anyone ever tried one of the vinyl texture spray paints that are available? I would think it would be difficult to lay a uniform coat on the 3-D surface.
If you were to paint the unit with resin first as Jim suggested that should give a suitable base for paint.

Will feel nice and warm and also good because it is black. Not had time to finish it off yet, but that is the plan in a couple of weeks</b></font id="green">

What kind of resin basecoat would you use? I thin I'm going to go that spray vinyl look stuff.
