I pressume you mean the standard 8 valve as compared to the Sprint engine?
As I have never driven a standard TR7 Sprint I can't really answer that question. A Dooly Sprint on the other hand is a great car to drive. My Sprint produces ± 175 bhp @ 5800 rpm and 197 Nm @ 4500rpm of torque so that's in a rather different league.
As for the comparison between standard or tuned 8 valve engine. Well 30 bhp and 12 Nm of torque extra is never a bad thing. Especially as my tuned 8V pulls very well from low revs and is fairly fuel efficient (30 mpg is easy achivable). It more or less drives like a standard TR7 it's only just that bit quicker.
