Another video with the SUs, WOW, I like!

Well its running. Spark plug wires are putting on quite a light show and the exhaust manifold to head without a gasket is not sealing. I have a water pump on order as well as rear brakes and wheel cylinder rebuild kits. Here is a video of the engine running

Here is another after installing exhaust gaskets and putting in some clean fuel and hooking the origional fuel pump back up.

I see what you mean. It's like the camera is mounted on the carbs. Sure starts quick flashing spark plug wires or no. Always feel good to hear it tick over.

I have to agree with has been that engine is sitting way to still to be running[:D] Looks and sounds great keep going, I can just imagine how good it feels.

OK yanked off the intake. I was dreading the water pump. Last one I did took a week, a torch, a BFH, pry bar, and a few other things, and I buggered up the block in the process. This one came right out. So I have a new one back in. Nice and easy.

OK now I am trying to decide whether to stick the stock ZS carbs back on or not. The choke has a huge vacuum leak and I have a set of SUs sitting on the shelf. The problem is, they need to be rebuilt, and the ZS carbs allready have been.

What do you guys think?

my pump came out in a snap with the free rental puller from AutoZone. It was the cover that took all day and came off in pieces that was the problem.

It was so easy to take out, that we put it back in, just so my neighbor could have a turn with the tool.

John, I much prefer the simplicity of SUs, & have replaced the ZS with a set of SUs from a Dolly Sprint, on my 7.

Having said that, the experts here reckon the ZS give every bit as much power, & stay in tune longer than the SUs.

You might as well use the ones that are ready to go.

Ok installed the SUs. It fired right up, but all the heater hoses under the intake need to be replaced now. The ones I just put in there no longer fit due to the differant positioning of the coolant inputs with the SU intake, and the fact that it has manual choke now.

So another trip to the parts store, and more money, but I think this was the right choice.
