Turn Signals don't work

Postby striker308 » 15 Oct 2007 23:56

I've had my '76 TR7 for only a week now and upon inspection of things not working I discovered that it didn't even have a turn signal switch/relay. The new one arrived today and I plugged it in and nothing!!!

What are the common reasons the turn signals don't work? I know bulbs!! Anyone have some experiences to share?

Thanks,

Most common problem is a corroded hazard switch as the turn sgnal goes through it. If it's corroded the electricity can't go through, no signal. Take hazard switch apart and clean. It has copper contacts so they corrode easily. Put some dielectric grease on them after cleaning to keep them from re corroding.

Do your wipers work?

Wiper, brake lights and turn signals are all one one fuse, #15/16, 25 amp.

I did clean the hazard switch and the hazards work. I do have working wipers. I did order a new turn signal control since the current one seems broken with the high beam control. If I'm not careful and bump it the high beams come on............and drain the battery.

Jclay, I did find an old post of yours about the turn signal wiring. I guess it's just one of the joys of ownership!!

It might be the turn signal control. I had replaced mine first because of broken high beam control. As turn signals still didn't work I went to hazard switch which did. Your case might be the reverse.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Hopefully, my new turn signal control will be here in a few days.

Update: I now have turn signals!!!!!! I purchased a new turn signal switch. The one around the steering wheel. However, they only flash for about 5-10 seconds and then they stop flashing.

Bad fuse??

Turn signals work fairly well. Now, I need to work on the running lights. Any suggestions?

Clean and check all connections.
Bad grounds are a common problem.
