As you can tell from my screen name I am the proud owner of a 1980 DHC. It is roughly the same color blue as the DHC in the pic at the upper left of this page (what ever the official name for that color is). It was my first car when I was 16, bought for about $1200 USD in 1993. Seeing as it is my first car I have never been able to bring myself to sell it even with all the trouble it has given me. My wife and I just recently bought a house with an enclosed garage so I now have a place to work on it, which will hopefully start soon. I will be around the site regularly looking for help on the car and I look forward to building some great friendships.

Well I have plenty of questions about my TR7 but the most nagging are things like: 1. How come the clock only works when I have a problem with my altenator, which is weird but also a good way to know when it was time to go pick up a new altermator? 2. How come when I step on the brakes on Monday for a stop sign the car doesn't stop until Thursday? I realize that these are questions that no mortal man can answer so I will settle for questions that are easier to answer as I go through the process of getting my beloved TR7 back on the roads of Alabama.

The question I have received the most over the years from my friends is "Why do I keep a car that I have had so much trouble with?" I just have to tell them if you have to ask that question you have obviously never owned a Triumph and you wouldn't understand.

Now the coolest story from owning a Triumph follows:

I had the great pleasure of meeting and spending a few hours hanging out with one of my childhood heroes, John Schneider, aka Bo Duke from the Dukes of Hazzard. There were a couple of people telling "Bo" all about their first cars, which were the typical cars for the south--Camaros, Mustangs, etc. I just mentioned that my first car had been a TR7 and "Bo" said back in the day he had owned a TR6 so he and I spent the next several minutes discussing the trials and tribulations of a Triumph owner.

The clock doesn't work all the time because the clocks on these cars are rubbish. If you change it make sure you get a brand new one otherwise you'll find you suffer the same problems immediately. At least with a new one it should be okay for a while.

The brakes should stop you by Wednesday!!! Obviously something wrong with them!!!

Holt-

I had the battery on my car disconnected for about an hour while I installed a radio. When I reconnected it,the clock (which hadn't worked since I purchased the car almost 2 years ago) worked! I was afraid to adjust it,and was more fascinated by the fact that It-Is-Alive!!! so I let it run. It ran for 3 days;then I took an off ramp at a high speed,and it quit as I was going thru the ramp and hasn't worked since-go figure! Some have had success on here by taking the clock out,cleaning the connections and reconnecting. There is a link somewhere on here for an actual repair also.

And the reason the brakes don't work well...there is a reason they called the car "the Wedge"-cause by the time you're able to stop, you're "wedged" under the vehicle in front of you![:D]

Welcome to the forum Holt![:D] Neat little cars aren`t they?[;)] Mine is a not so stock anymore, green,`76 coupe.[}:)] Glad to hear that you have held onto yours. This car on ebay is pretty close to what my car looks like except mine has different wheels, no decals, that blue plaid (tartan) interior, and the blue on mine is slightly brighter (of course I am pretty sure mine has a repaint on it, so they might have used the wrong color).
