Painted Bumpers

Postby Underdog » 16 Oct 2007 13:35

Been trying to find photos of cars done with the bumpers painted body color. I bought a set of NOS from Rimmer but they have some scuff marks from being tossed about. So I'm considering painting the originals & see how that looks.

Hi underdog, have you checked youre local Auto store? there is a spray you can buy that is called bumper & vinyl spray, least i think thats what its called, i used similar on the front edge of my Tr and if done properly it can come up very nice too, hope this has been some help to you.

US cars have rubber bumper cover while other cars have the plastic bumper cover (and different bases!)

Thanks for the sugestions guys. Guess I should have mentioned that I'm in the autobody bussiness so painting them is no problem. Just trying to get a feel for how they will look body color.

My 1980 DHC is Persian Aqua, I painted the bumpers to match the body color, and I think it looks great!

Hi,

I colour coded my White DHC, including all the front trim and around the headlights etc. Infact it looks frightenly like the one in the picture above! I sold it 7 years ago, after owning it for 13 years, I'm going to dig some pics out and see if there are any marks that correspond.

Anyway, I sprayed plastic primer on first, but you probably know all this anyway!

Regards, Dave

Thanks for finding the photos for me. TR7inc, what did you do with the flat black on the rockers and lower rear fenders? Sort of would like to leave them flat black since it doesn't show the road tar as much.

Hi Underdog do you have a front spoiler on your TR? my DHC 7 is in Inca Yellow and therefore the satin black on the bumpers compliments the Yellow very nicely indeed, like anything if the time is put in the finish will reward you.

I have one I bought when I did the car the first time but never installed it. It's one of the fiberglass replicas. Thinking of putting it on this time around.

Hi! I have painted my bumpers with special bumper paint. It did a good job but it is very easy to scratch and gravel from the road is removing paint easily. Any suggstion?
Thanks

Underdog, There is a picture of my 1980 DHC Persian Aqua with painted bumpers in "My Album", you'll get an idea of what yours would look like.

Very nice. Thanks. I'm gonna go for it. I always have the NOS set if I ever want to go back.
