Front fogs on DHC

Postby group4-tr7 » 13 Oct 2007 18:21

Can anyone verify the manufacturer of front fog lamps. One of mine has busted lense and not sure if they're original or copies. If they changed manufacturers or anything like that my cars an 82. The lamps are made by Raydot.

On the V8 i have them made by Ring as found in Rimmer's catalogue, code rx1370. I think they may be a fairly generic lamp from the 80's,with other manufacturers making similar. I also have more modern fogs on my auto made by Ring, which look Kewl.Image

See ya. Paul

I bought a NOS set for my FHC in their original Leyland boxes with the correct front brackets, & they are Wipac.

Were these lights ever factory fitted or were they just a dealer fit option? I'll bet Mr Turner will know the answer ....[:)]

I've not found a manufacturers marker on the lights themselves, but the black plastic covers that go over them have "Lucas Mean Mother" written on them, in a 70's font more subtle than but reminiscent of that used for "the Goodies".

Thanks, Tony, youre right they werent fitted at the factory on any UK spec TR7/8, They were usually fitted by the dealer with the factory brackets, or by owners who usually drilled the bumper. They were sold by Unipart but like most of their stuff it was made by another supplier.Like Tonys the ones I have are Wipac, the best ones were made by Lucas.
Pauls idea is a good one, the Ring lamps are pretty good and are usually on Rimmers offer sheet at around £18 per pair.

Thanks for your help in clearing this up I was unsure what make the Rimmers after market ones were. My line of thinking was if the one I had was genuine I'd try a find another at an autojumble and keep car standardish.

I have a 30th Aniversary Edition car, which was advertised as having fog lamps as part of the package. The fog lamps that were on the car when I got it say Bosch on the lenses. I do not know if they were the original lamps or not.

Bosch were the original ones that come on the 30 Ann. US.

Just ot chime in my DHC fog lights also say Bosch. I guess that improves the chances that my car is a 30th Ann. edition. It of course has the plate on the glove box lid but not being the original owner I thought some one could have pulled the lid off of a wrecked car and replaced it.

Pretty sure the original front 'fog' lights on UK DHC are Cibie lights. Mine certainly are - and they look exactly like the period adverts show. But very possibly there would be more than one supplier.

Mine are Lucas fogs, can't imagine Cibie's being stock on a UK BL vehicle. Might be wrong though.
