Brake Light Switch

Postby striker308 » 10 Oct 2007 00:24

Sorry folks for all the stupid questions, but I've only had my TR7 for 3 days now and I've started to tackle some of it's issues and man do I have a lot to learn.

My brake lights don't work and while trouble shooting with the only repair manual I have a Hayes (sad excuse for a manual) I was looking for the Brake light switch. Can someone point me in the right direction? I looked under the dash at the brake pedal and nothing??

Could someone also point me in the right direction for a good manual or better yet a parts diagram!! Someone on eBay is selling a CD for TR7's that contains manuals, is it any good.

Thanks

Hey there, congrats on the new car,
the brake light switch is a small white block fixed to a metal bracket above the brake pedal arm. follow the arm up and it will be the only point of contact before you reach the pivot point.
as for manuals there was a link on the site at one point to an electronic copy of the original Repair Operation Manual I cant seem to find it at the moment but i am sure someone will come along who knows where to find it.
i have found the Rimmers catalogue a really good source for seeing how certain bits fit together, if your in the UK it would definatly be worth phoning them and getting a free one ( http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/ )

One thing i would add striker is that the brake light switch is the same as the mgb and if you go to an Mg dealer rather than a triumph one you may find as i did it was half the price..

don't ask me why

jclay, I was just checking it out. I found the link from an old posting. Excellent site. Your yellow one reminded me of one I saw on eBay a few weeks ago. It was from MD, I'm in PA.

Now another missing switch/relay. Where is the turn signal switch? I have a 1976 TR7 and I thought it to was located under the dash. Would anyone happen to have a picture of it's location and that of the brake light switch?

Thanks,

Mine is far to the left of the steering column.

Hey Karl,I'm in PA also...are you on the east or west? I'm in Pittsburgh,if you're not far away I could bring the car around at some point for you to reference stuff off of. My 75 obviously would be the better point of reference, but as it doesn't have a plate on it, it isn't being driven. The 80 is alomst as original as you can get, down to the little plastic plugs on the cardboard-ish covers on the inside of the brake lights! I can also email pics of stuff in the 75 if you want (BTW,thanks for the pics Steve,I'm jealous![:p])
