DHC Free Road Tax 2021

I'm currently converting my 1981 TR7 to 3.9 V8 and it has been off the road ten years.
Would it be best to get the engine swap on the V5 before going back for historic status or will DVLA do both changes together. I've read through all the posts, but can't find any that answer my question.

If it were me I’d apply for one change at a time to keep things simple with the DVLA.

Historic status first for the free road tax, then the engine change afterwards.
