Here’s where to discuss anything specific about your standard(ish) car or something that applies to the model in general.

Timing cover refitting

Postby tr7dan » 18 Oct 2021 14:20

1980 TR7 dhc

Could anyone tell me where the fibre washer fits on the timing cover centre bolt ?

The parts book seems to suggest it fits BETWEEN the timing cover and engine block and indeed the centre boss is slightly lower than the machined gasket surfaces when checked with a straight edge, however, the workshop manual says that the fibre washer fits under the centre bolt head ?

Under the bolt head, between the plain washer and the timing cover

Ok, thanks for that.

I just rechecked and the thickness of the fixed chain guide backplate accounts for the recessed centre boss - moral is, look twice...

cheers
