TR7 - The public like them.

I suffered an injury to the back of the calf of my right leg, while clearing the spot I've had a new 12m x 6 m shed built. 3 roller doored bays with a 3m x 6m work area, it is the shed I've wanted for about 30 years. I have been visiting the local doctors surgery to have the injury dressed for about 6 weeks now.

As it has been difficult to drive my nice cars with virus restrictions recently, I have taken my Honda S2000 a couple of times. It attracted some attention, particularly the action of the electric hood, but only a little.

Thus I was amazed when I drove the 7 the other day. The senior doctor noticed it first, & called another out to look at it. Soon the entire population of the surgery, staff & patients were all over it, so much so, I doubt any exotic could have drawn more attention.

I almost wore the headlight motors responding to requests to see them pop up. I am getting a bit sick of these visits to have the nurse dress my leg, but I really did get a kick from the amount of interest my 40 year old Triumph generated. Made me realise all over again, how attractive the old girl really is.

Yeah, get the same reaction. Just the other day a worker from Walmart (just off night shift from stocking shelves) came up and started talking (about seeing my car in car shows, I think it's the only FI Spider in Canada) and other things for half an hour. Rarely get that with other cars, although I had some did it to my '88 Toyota Tercel wagon 4x4 (used to see them all over but rarely now as they are all rusted out) and my Volt (asking questions about owning an EV). As I was driving out of a parking lot once, radio playing a Lourde song, top down, I heard a wife say to her husband, "I want one of those".

The TR7's design certainly has aged well And a pretty rare sight on the roads these days!

ooh 928! . i shook hands on a 'pink' 928 buy a few months back....but the seller pulled out..... Tr7 and 928 were my favorite cars as a teenager

Probably because they both look like eyes on stalks.......

I always liked the lights on the AlphaRomeo Montreal. Not true pop ups but certainly different. Saab Sonnet or original Lotus Elan a close 2nd as they rotate rather than pop up.

There is a 928 prototype in the Porsche museum that never made production, it had the 911 style fixed lights in slightly raised guards, 100% better looking.
most of the pop ups from that era were only to comply with the USA bumper height rules, nothing to do with looking pretty.

May be they only wanted to see them go up & down to see how ugly they are, but they all wanted to see it.

A few months back I was driving to a mates place & passed a paddock with a big pile of sand, near the road boundary. Probably to surface a dressage arena, lots of equestrian stuff around here. There were a bunch of kids playing on the pile, so I hit the light flasher just for fun. The kids stopped playing & stared.

Coming back about 10 minutes later the kids were still there, so I flashed them again. This time the kids jumped up & down, cheering & shouting to me, with big smiles all round. With modern cars so booring it is not often that kids see a car that winks at them.
