Jaguar XJS brakes on Rover SD1 strut upgrade problem

Postby Axis of evil » 04 Jul 2020 05:28

Need better brakes for my 4.3 Lexus 3UZ transplant. I have done 2 previous Rover brake upgrades on 2 previous TR8's, in both cases using the Rover 4 pots on solid rotors.
I picked up some adaptor plates for Rover hubs to XJS brakes,24mm vented rotors and calipers.
Just done a mock up, everything looks OK apart from the lining up of the mounting bolt points. Caliper to rotor clearance OK, but one bolt hole on the caliper needs modification.
This upgrade has been done before , just wondering if anyone that has done it can advise method of fitting that last bolt.
options;
1) extend oval out one bolt hole.(rat tale file)
2)enlarge both mounting points so both holes have a smaller mod instead of one larger one.
3) weld up one hole (beyond me) and re-drill.
Pic with arrow shows amount of enlarging required.
(ignore the state of that XJS rotor, only using it for the mock up.)

Weld and re-drill, if you can't do it, handball it to someone who can.

I totally agree with Cobber. Option 3, no other options.

Hi Russ I also agree with Cobber and Beans, where abouts are you situated?
Have got any decent engineering shops near you, I had to get my replacement rotors bored out and the shop that did it charged me £50 including the set up fee.Ironicaly I am a retired toolmaker and I had done the same mod many times when I was working :mrgreen:

Thanks everyone, I figured that to be best option. I'm on the Gold Coast, don't know of an engineering shop up here,(moved up from Sydney a couple of years back, had an A1 machine shop down there-David at Bosnjack-but these things are too heavy to post) My welding skills are not good, put me on the Harbour bridge with a stick welder and I will make holes in it.
Anyone know and can recommend a shop close? Thanks Russ

Hopefully Hasbeen will be along soon and know someone who'll be able to help you.
