Hi all and thanks again for your ongoing help identifying parts of the TR7. I quite like this game, so here's another round:

Somewhere to the left of the steering column, in the engine bay, there are two threaded rods. Anyone know what they are for?

Ah, now that's interesting, Beans. Many thanks. Mine is a 1977 ACG17###-series car - do you think I should put the coil there?

Hi again Beans. I think I managed to answer my own question!

I found a pack of old photos from 1994, and going through them found a photo of the coil location. Looks like it goes right there.

When faced with an empty engine bay which was stripped around 25 years ago, it is amazing how the smallest thing can be a mystery. Equally, it is amazing how just one photo can solve the riddle! I don't remember taking these photos, but hallelujah I must have taken them with reassembly in mind.

Moral of the story for any newbie restorer - photos, photos, photos!

On my '76 FHC I have decided to move the coil to the "later" position.
It's better protected there from oil, dirt and heat!
And I did have a few spare brackets from some later cars ...
