Radio replacement

Postby UKPhilTR7 » 11 Dec 2018 17:21

I am looking to replace the radio in my TR, well should I say put one in :-)

I know that there is not much room for a long radio, so I was looking at one of there. Has anyone put one of these in?

Yes it can be done with some cutting and relocation of some switches
If it's not broke don't fix it.

That is good to hear, as I like the idea of everything in all together and in one place.

Has anyone out there got any photos or instructions on how to do it?

It is much easier just to install one of the new HD radios with a USB port and no CD player. They are much shorter. You will still need to do minor trimming to fit the DIN Sleeve but hat is pretty easy.

Oh yes I would go for that as not need the CD player anyway. will check out these, thanks. Just really want something that has reverse camera, sat nav, can play music and radio.

There isn't much space for anything bigger than a traditional radio - see photo taken during installation of my radio.

That is true Howard, but that is why I was thinking of one of the lcd 5" screens that do not seem to need much space at the back. These ones now do not come with a CD player, so generally do not need as much space at the back to go in. Like it has been mentioned though, the switches would need to be moved to allow more space for the bigger unit to be added.

In your picture, I am wondering if the L shaped bracket can be flattered down to give more space?

Sorry can't recall as this photo was taken about 10 years ago - the front parts are the fixing points for the moulded cover, & I suspect the rear part is there to support the weight of the radio,
