Windscreen wipers and blowers

I never drive my car in the rain if I can help it, which is not easy living on the west coast of Scotland.

Tonight I had to in an awful heavy rainy night. I took it to drop it off about 30 miles away down back flooded roads to get a custom made stainless steel exhaust. As soon as I got the car out the garage the wipers wouldn't work. The rain was awful so not that the windscreen was dry. They worked on the fastest setting fortunately

About 20 to 30 mins into the journey the normal setting began to work again

This being an MOT issue I'm keen to resolve it and not get caught out

Any advice on what to check or what's wrong with it?

On a positive note. Terrible night and the car didn't miss a beat.

No air blowing on my windows so presumably something has been disconnected. I can see the air pipes are there so can't see an issue. Is it a dash out to check?

1. where in the west coast are you ?? ( i'm just outside Glasgow)

2. In the wiper box the grease my be congealed ( a good way to fix is open lid of box spray lots of wd40 put cover back on and run, (best having a wiper blades off of the window) after it has ran for some time open back up and put fresh grease in.)

3.as for the air move the levers up and down and check that the wire is moving in at the back

The "wires" can get disconnected, belcrank screws come loose so when they move the flaps don't. Not sure of the accessibility as I had my heater out, replacing the crumbled foam when I had greased moving/sliding areas and put Loctite on any screws.

Will spray the box now and tackle the heater when I take the dash out

Sorry, can't shed much light on your wiper or blower issues but just spotted you are fairly close. I am in Bridge of Weir and often pass through Beith. Also there is an identical green 7 convertible in the village.

I'm yet to see another since I bought mine. Would be lovely to see more around. you're about 10 mins away. I commute to Kilmarnock on the back roads most days. It's a riot on them and occasionally to Glasgow. The 5 speed box makes it so useable

Regards your back road commute to Killy, I often visit a colleague in Craigie and the B777, A735, B778 are a joy. Always seems to be sunny too.
Is it a pale blue metallic convertible you have? Seen one on the 737.

I've a mate who goes sometimes. He told me about it a couple of months ago but I've been busy the weekends it's on

My car is green.

Soon to be on eBay. Really need a 4 seater. If it doesn't sell I will happily keep it and tell the Mrs I did try!!! I'll struggle to find anything decent for the money 7s go for. Or I think as useable

My heart's not in selling it but I'll test the waters. Not a great time to sell.

I had removed the whole wiper assembly, cleaned out the old grease and regreased it including the rack. I was expecting to find dried grease but it wasn't too bad. If you take out the rack be careful of the copper tang that moves the parking switch. It is delicate and should have a plastic baggie put on it so it doesn't catch on anything (I had inadvertently cracked mine causing some problems. We will likely have to adjust the parking switch which if out of adjustment will cause the wipers to fail to park. Not a big job as this can be done with everything in the car (by trial and error). Never had a problem with it after (ten years and counting).
