It is the manufacturing date which counts if you have it, so a little (or maybe a lot if it has sat in a showroom) earlier than registration date.
Currently applies to vehicles made before Jan 1977 so yours should be due next April I think (seems to work from tax years). Apply on line:

Unfortunately mine has a few years to go.

I understood that the DVLA accepted that vehicles registered in the first seven days of the year had been made the previous year, or has this now changed? supercass

Mine is a 1980’s model, so I have a few years to go before she is exempt. However, this is a bonus that as time goes by more and more of us will be enjoying, yet another reason to keep these great cars on the road.

What is road tax and how does it differ from licence fee? Our licence fee, which is renewed annually is part of our provincial insurance fee and I think is something like $50. How much is your road tax or is it variable?

In the UK you have three things to pay for driving a car:

1. Insurance : This depends on age, where you live, points on driving licence ( for tr7 on classic car insurance this can be £90 to £800) estimated.

2. Road taxfor a 2.0L 8V is £ 230 pa

3. M.O.T : ( Ministry of Transport ) test Is a road worthiness test £ is up to the Garage you go to, normally about £50 just for the test
If it's not broke don't fix it.
