Cruise Light Only - Amber Front

Postby UKPhilTR7 » 21 Jun 2017 13:59

I am looking to buy two new front amber Cruise Light and have seen that on the rimmer site there are two options available:

Lucas:
https://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-UKC5936LUCAS

Not Lucas:
https://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-UKC5936

My issue here is that the Lucas one looks a bit too light and the Not Lucas one looks a bit too dark.

Has anyone brought any of these or can anyone give any words of wisdom as I need to get a pair, but I want them to look good.

In respect of the amber lights they are virtually identical. The Lucas ones of course have the Lucas part no. etc. on the lens but you would have to peer at the unit to spot this when fitted. It is the red rear lights where there is a significant difference with the Lucas units fitting flush and having a much better appearance in my opinion.

Here in OZ, you might fall foul of the annual road worthy inspection in the states that have them.

To avoid this, they should be wired as indicator repeaters....not cruise lights.
The problem is that as no one runs cruise lights here in OZ, idiots may mistake them for indicators.

The rules are a bit contradictory.....
It's not clear that cruise lights are illegal here, so you'd be relying in individual interpretation of the rules by testers, authorities et all.
But you'll have no problem using them as indicator repeaters, providing both the front and rears are amber, red on the rear will not be deemed acceptable.

However, if it is a heavy vehicle or a trailer then side lights that light up amber to the showing forward and red showing to the rear, and light up with the tail/park light circuit must be fitted to each side.

Oh yes I forgot to say that my current set up is with the front amber ones connected to the indicators and the read red ones just fitted to the main tail lights. So the rear red ones are on all the time (when my lights re on) and the front amber ones only come on when turning. On looking at it, I think I favour the not Lucas ones as my car being dark red in colour might not look right with the brighter ones. Also with the not Lucas ones Rimmer throw in the bulb holders, something that seems hard to get these days.

I went down to the garage and checked the ones that I have already, I have the not Lucas ones. They are a bit darker and fit well on my car, being a dark red. So now I have a set on order from rimmer and hope that they will be here in a week or two so I can fir them and call that job done.
