Replacing front dampers anything else to consider replacing?

Note if you want to change the ball joints you really need a press to get the old ones out and new ones in without a lot of effort and trouble. They do have a reputation for wearing.

I remember, as a child, maybe 55 or so years ago, coming across a family in a Chev (about 1940) with a broken wishbone or something similar, halfway between Rockhampton and Mackay, where there were no towns for 330+miles of gravel road and creek crossings (no bridges). The 330 mile trip from Rockhampton to Mackay was a 12-14 hour trip in those days, 3.5 hours now.

He had scavenged a pile of coal from the railway line, built a fire, and was preparing to hot-weld it together.
We were travelling from Herberton in North Queensland to Brisbane (1250 miles, 3 long days, camping beside the road) for Xmas in a 1949 Humber Super Snipe, and, when we came back about 3 weeks later, the car and family were gone, so he must have got it fixed.
That was the Humber's last trip, and it was soon replaced by a Chrysler Royal, 6cyl side valve, with an electric wireless.

Way off topic, but we did a similar trip, Townsville to Sydney in 1949, but by train. That was a 4 & 1/2 day trip, with no camping.

That old side valve Humber must have been faster than Queensland steam trains were back then, despite the roads.
