Speedometer cable routing

Struggling to find this in the manual and my old cable is missing so i can't follow it. Apparently it's the old style cable

Is there a hole it goes through somewhere in the car and presumably attaches to the gearbox? I'm fine from the back of the dash . Its the rest that's the issue

Old style was single cable, newer style had a service counter in the middle (2 part cable) for changing EGR or O2 sensor on FI cars. It goes through a hole in firewall (should be pretty easy to figure out) and connect to transmission,beans last picture in "gear shift banging...." post shows it.

I confess I don't have a clue. Not easy for me ! Are you referring to the pic which shows the beautiful green underneath with a cable at the left hand side?

Looked tonight and couldn't find a hole. There must be one .

On a RH drive car the hole is near the top of the transmission tunnel near the bulkhead, you will see it near the top of your left foot if you have it on the footrest. The cable comes down from the speedo through the bulkhead grommet and over the gearbox into the drive gear.

The speedo cable sweeps with no kinks through the hole and over the gearbox.

The LH drive cars use the same hole on the opposite side of the tunnel because the controls are on the left.
If you can't figure it out then I can take a photo of the car I have in bits.

Having a go at this and the bushes today. I see where the cable joins the box. I can't see how though? Does it screw in? My old cable is snapped so hopefully that's all that's wrong

It is held in by clamp and bolt. You can see it in Bean's photo in other post. If your cable was missing (bought a project part way through?) they might be missing. Part number 22G1711. Check Rimmer's gear box extension and speedo drive diagram for a good picture.
