Rear suspension for racing?

Postby Markus » 09 Apr 2017 10:16

I'm wondering if the collective wisdom on here can guide me.
My 7-V8 race car has the original rear suspension geometry but with rod end links instead of the original bushed pressings.
While this is giving me much more tracking accuracy it is binding on sharp and cambered corners.
Should I go with parallel 4 links or a 3 link system?
If I go 3 link is there a better way to connect the upper, third link to the rear axle and to the body?
Cheers!

A BL drawing showing how the race car suspension was set up, look at some of the pictures in the album showing the set up on a race car that I restored.

Thank-you gents.
Do you have drawings or photos of the body mounting points for the upper links?
Cheers!

B.t.w. what kind of setups are you referring to with these mentioned above?

I'm tossing up either a 3 link setup with a central upper link OR a 4 link with top links parallel with the bottom links.
Of course, both will need lateral control from either a panhard bar or watts link.
Thanks!

Not sure about the 3 link you mentioned, but sounds like it will leave the roll centre were it is with the original set up ... to high.
I guess that the Panhard rod or Watts linkage are far better in this respect.
The 5 link set up I have in mind will lower the roll centre of the back axle by a maximum of ±130 mm compared to the original 4 link system.
