hi all,first post so i will tell you a little about me and my car,i am a semi-retired motor trader/garage owner.my car is a 1977 FHC originally an LHD export car.i bought it in 1990 from a chap who had converted it to RHD.i fitted the engine and gearbox from a SD1 V8S rover.the diff came from a SD1 V8 automatic.the conversion was carried out mainly with parts modified by myself and some rimmer bros TR8 parts.having two young children at the time i also carried out a 2+2 conversion which involved cutting out the rear bulkhead and fabricating a rear seat pan and using a modified renault 18 fuel tank and some fold forward toyota MR2 leather seats.i intend to do some more work on the car this winter and would like to call on the forums collective knowledge as i go,cheers greasemonkey..

Im relatively new here. - 12 months or so, but have found the forum to be really helpful.

hi,i live just outside bedford [UK].i am considering fitting a four barrel carb setup as i have never been happy with the twin SU's.the engine has a slightly raised compression ratio and a higher than standard lift camshaft.some say fit the holley carb,others the weber/edelbrock,any advice on this would be much appreciated,cheers greasemonkey..

All the lads I know with V8's in their Tr7 have gone the Webber/Edelbrock route, they all say it's a lot easier to change the jets etc to get them running spot on than with the Holley. They all get around 30 mpg on a long steady run. I only get high 20's but then I'm running twin SU's at the moment.

I was going to follow them down the Edelbrock route but since I like messing with electronics I've decieded to go fuel injected instead, hopefully I'll get that done this winter.

hi,would love to show you some pics of the conversion but the beast is in my storage building at the moment hemmed in by my motorbikes.when i move it to the workshop to do some work on it sometime in the next few weeks i will take some pics of the seats etc and put it up on the lift and take some of the underside and then put them up on the forum,cheers greasemonkey

My V8 conversion is also SD1 but with fuel injection, its been a long project, though I spend as much spare time on her as possible.

Hi, I am in a similar position as I have come by a 3.9 V8 engine with gearbox and axle to fit into my 1980 2 litre drophead. The engine came with all the fuel injection bits/ECU but as I have no experience with FI I am considering going down the 4 barrel Webber/Edelbrock or Holley carb route.

1981 TR7 drophead bodywork and mechanicals now done, completing trim currently.

I too have very little experience with fuel injection, I just blunder my way through fitting the wiring into mine and as it was basically a swap from one car to another I was able to get it running with some help from someone who had some experience in the field of auto electrics.
Fuel injection is far superior in my view and as I have raced fuel injected cars against carbed models the injection sure has the edge........But obliviously this is my own point of view and the injection system does need to be in top form :)

I love everything about the SUs on my 7. Wouldn't change them for the world.

I would not consider running the 8 on anything but a fully tuneable computer controlled fuel & ignition system after my recent experience of how easy it was to fix my overheating, with a few clicks on the lap top.

Hi,

Sounds an interesting car, will have to look out for you out and about, live down the A6 from yourself in Luton.

I have run both carbs, the Holley work better out of the box, the Weber is set too rich for a 3.5 but its no big hassle adjusting the needles and jets ect. Got a weber on my 4.6 and happy with it.
