Wheel base width.

Postby mini35 » 09 May 2016 22:00

I have a trailer with a load base that's 65 inches across.
I was wondering if a tr7 would fit on it.
The length isn't a problem.
I've looked on the Internet and found 2 different measurements.
62.4 inches
And 66.2 inches.
What's puzzled me is I got my sons puma on the trailer and according to Wikipedia
That's 72.4 inches wide.
So the measurements for the Tr7
Is it 62.4 inches across the wheels
Or is the measurement they give from mirror to mirror.

66.2" is the width normally quoted, somehow doubt this includes the mirrors as they only had one initially, n/s was an optional extra.

If you work from the track, 55.5" to centre of the wheels on the front, and add the wheel width (5.5" for standard alloys, 185 tyres nominally 7.5" dependent on make) you get 63" as the overall width across the wheels tyres so should just go on a flat bed 65" wide provided it does not have mudguards which rise far above the bed.
PS Just tried to measure mine across the mirrors (both sides, not easy) and I made it about 68"

That's very helpful.
I'm looking for a car and thought if I buy a project can I get it home.
To get the puma to fit I had to change my sons aftermarket 17" rims for the standard wheels.
Given that you calculate the width as 63"
It should go on.
The tyres might rub but it should fit.
I'd hate to drag the trailer miles only to realise it won't go on.
