Perhaps the sudden upsurge in TR7's might be a sign of more people willing to come out as "Wedgist".

Well I look at the earlier TR's and can appreciate them but it's that striking wedge shaped TR7 that really appeals to me, I've wanted one for more than 25 years and one day I will own one !

It's not a particular era thing with me as I also own a BSA M20 bikes and a WW2 Willys MB (a Jeep to you none military lot) it's just that some vehicles just have a certain something that I desire, and a TR7 is one of my all time favourites.

Hi,

Interesting stuff Christopher.

For me it got to be the TRDC, by far the most 7 & 8 relevant club, as I said been a member for years and years, although the membership has dropped from it hay day, as has ALL CAR CLUBS , it now IMHO the best club has ever been, plus as my learned friend John has said membership is on the rise, not many clubs can boast that.

From a excellent magazine for arm chair enthusiasts to major headlining grabbing classic car runs for those who get out and use their car's , plus everything in between. In short if you own a 7 or 8 you need to be in the TRDC.

Don't forget for those that ' do ' The Book Of Face' ( unlike myself ) two gents Simon and Gaz also host a TRDC page thingy.

This forum has probably been the greatest asset of the TR Drivers Club without ever having been officially 'owned' by the club. It has always been run by members. Jason Human founded it long before anyone ever really thought of internet forums as a means to promote a car club. He hassled me into joining (at Billing many years ago) soon after he established it at a time when the forum was little used and desperate for contributions. Jay was a major help in getting my original 'Code Name: Bullet' off the ground as we developed a good relationship. When he became a father his interest waned and the forum floundered we spoke about passing it over to the club which he agreed to do. It took a few years to sort things out as we both wanted to keep it within the club but independent. Dr. Christopher proved to be the salvation as he had the people on his staff who could transition everything seamlessly to a new location but still keep all our user IDs and posts. Well done that man!

Now that the forum is settled, has survived and is beginning to thrive again, it is time to move on to the next TRDC upgrade and that will involve a child site to the main trdrivers.com which is looking a little tired by now but too big to simply replace altogether. The new site will in the main promote and publicize the new annual 'Bullet Run' but will also include the national weekend at Billing, extracts from the bi-monthly 'TR Driver' magazine and a few other things. With the TR7 now being an openly more appreciated car and values going up this has resulted in more cars coming out of hibernation and undergoing restoration. That is why the TRDC - as the only car club that has openly supported the model throughout its 31 year history - is also enjoying a sudden resurgence of interest. There are other interesting possibilities going on right now but I can't report on those until - or if - they happen.

Excellent news John ... and before anyone asks, 'No, i don't know any more ... I've not been told any of the above until I just read it like you!'

Best of Luck in making the TRDC an even better club, perhaps the TWOA and TR-Register can also update the forum on what they are doing / have done to promote and develop the wedges :?:

Thanks for all of the related replies.

So now I'm now full circle - unfortunately the TRDC has no local group or meet close to me in the North East.

The nearest being 102 miles away in Rotherham, followed by Cumbria.

A definite gap there :(

Having to drive that far for club meets, sounds like a brilliant excuse for doing some miles in your TR!

Or start up your own local chapter. The ones here start with a dozen or so members and grow. Ours is now well over a hundred members (over two hundred counting significant others, females are also involved with the club including executive positions). We are 60 kilometres north of an equally large sized club and there was one 60 kilometres to the north of that until it was dissolved because nobody wanted to step up to the plate and the same people were doing all the work year in and year out (and we are on an island). Mind you it is an all British makes club (there are parallel makes clubs like Jag, MG, Mini). True they did look down on wedges initially (I was second one to get one but there are over half dozen now). As one Jag owner put it "I never like the shape of the TR7 but the more I see of yours, the better it looks".

Another option could be the North East kit car club. They meet at the church mouse pub near Causey Arch near Chester Le Street which is not far off your Seaham marker post.
Near Penrith and the Lake District :)

There is only one, the Triumph Sports Owners Association Queensland.

Oh, & we cater to all Triumphs these days, not just the more sporty ones.

You lot can join, but you're just going to have to immigrate to enjoy it with us.

I am so pleased the trdc is thriving, especially as a new member. I would really like to get some of the NW members together somehow.

Bit late now bit i would love us to maybe have a 'club' stand at the cumbria steam gathering in late july 2017. I have always exhibited by vintage scooters there for many years, and was instrumental in providing a club stand for the vintage motor scooter club(until a somewhat acrimonious split ;) ).

So this year i will be exhibiting the tr7 v8 AND the vintage scooters.

John c. - is there anyway i could get access to the 'new members' details, notwithstanding data protection issues ?

Regards

Brian

Don't know where the Seaham marker post is? But that's a bum steer I'm afraid as I'm approximately 40 miles south of Seaham in Teesside.

Look in the latest TR Driver magazine Shaun and you'll see Paul Heritage is down as contact for the North East. Perhaps the two of you can really kick something off.

Brian, Jim Johnson can provide you with a list of members in your area. Jim is the membership secretary in case anyone was wondering.
