Boot carpet template

Postby UKPhilTR7 » 13 Mar 2016 05:05

I have been looking atgetting a boot carpet for my TR. I have the option of paying a fair bit to haveit shipped over from the UK or bring it back with me the next time I am in the UK.

I thought about getting some carpet and then making one myself. Has anyone tried this and did you use a template you made?

When i go to car shows here, i can buy carpet from the auto jumble, and a bonus it is only £10 a roll ( one roll is enough to to the boot)

but i did not use any template just fit and cut.

I've done a reasonable job of carpeting my yellow coupe. I used a corrugated plastic board found in craft stores, bound to a rubber backed indoor/outdoor carpet. I created a template with cardboard first. I'm going to try and upload pictures again (moderators are welcomed to tweak them...please?), if I can find any.

I've also added two LED light strips to the rear deck just inside of the weather stripping. A welcome addition.

At the moment, I am just going to look at the bottom mat. I see that one of the pictures above show the spare wheel well cut out. I think I will leave the carpet whole. Went to bunnings yesterday to get some of their hard backed boot carpet, but just my luck they had run out. This is hard enough, not to need anything at the bottom of it and it will retain its shape. I did measure the boot and i was going to get a roll just above 5 ft x 2 ft.

I think the sides would be good to do too and i must admit from the pictures above, a boot fully lined with carpet does look good.
