I believe the Double Duck is like a heavy-duty canvas - something possibly cut from an old army tent! Although I could be wrong!

If your vinyl one lasted that long, & you were happy with the look of it, I think the choice is obvious. I have a vinyl hood on my Capri, treated with Armorial it is very shiny. Some have said it looks tizzy, but I quite like it, & that is what counts.

The Honda S2000 is double duck, [I think that is thick closely woven canvas], & it is attractive & waterproof. The car is parked hood up in the sun reasonably regularly, & does not appear to mind.

The 8 has mohair, about the same age as the Hondas hood. It has rarely seen the sun or rain. However when I was caught in a heavy storm, every seam ran water like a sieve immediately. Within an hour, most of the hood was soaked & it was almost as wet inside the car as out.

My auto trimmer waxed the seams which fixed them, but made the areas shinny, & came up with a US waterproof spray called 303 waterproof hood treatment which has done the job. Unfortunately it is a strange sort of shiny too, but better than a wet bum.

I'd go for the vinyl or the double duck. Neither look quite as good as mohair, but do a better job in my experience.

Bear in mind you are in the UK. If you use the car in winter with the top down on the (occasional) bright days a vinyl hood will be stiff and a bit difficult to fold. I have never knowingly seen a double duck one on a TR7, they look OK on others although sometimes a little 'canvassy' like a Jeep. I have a mohair one (as posts above long ago) which folds easily in any temperature and has always been waterproof when caught out in storms. It has been on for about 8 years now, although I do not tend to use the car in bad weather (prefer top down) or winter (not worth the tax for the amount of use).

Agreed, the vinyl hood has a tendency to contract as it cools. I've learnt to raise the hood before the temperature falls away otherwise I'm in for a tug of war contest. Or it goes straight in to the garage with a cotton cover over it............

I need a new hood for the TR7
I dont have a lot of money so a mohair top may be out of my budget
where is the best place to go.

Hi Dave,
I have two hoods that are surplus to requirements. One is a tan vinyl hood that I purchased from Rimmer Brothers but didn't use as I ended up finding a mohair hood instead. This one is brand new and still in the box. The second one is a black vinyl hood that has never been fitted. This one is an OE quality hood. It has some minor blemishes due to storage. Let me know if you are interested.

Hi Rich, I might be interested in the black one, what sort of price are you looking for and any chance of closer pics of blemishes? PM me if you like.

Thanks.

Hi Andy, I have tried to send you a PM but it doesn't seem to be moving out of the Outbox. Have you received it? I will take some pictures today.
