Silicone Hoses

I was watching the TV the other night and they had a nice car on "Car SOS" On there, they were looking for new hoses for a nice Lotus. They went to a place and got some Silicone Hoses, rather than the rubber ones. I was thinking of getting some. Has anyone put Silicone Hoses on rather than the rubber ones or has anyone used these guys?

I have also been looking at this and think that it could be worth looking at. Have anyone brought one or has anyone heard anything about them?

I've got black silicone hoses on my Sprint. They are starting to split so not sure if they're worth the extra cost.

The valve cover is made by a very respected team on this side.
The TR6 people swear to it
They are in the process,all be it slow, of doing the V8 ones

I have Samco silicone hoses on both the 7 and V8 and have not had any problems yet, but as they say time will tell.

My original hoses have just started to bulge after 35 years. Am I right in thinking that new replacements are going to be tat in the same way new strut gaiters are? supercass

I wasn't impressed with the cracks that formed around the top rad hose (hotter) where the clip was although the lower was still fine (cooler).

I think I may go for the rocker cover gasket and wait to see if I can find out more on the hoses.

I understand that you can remove the valve cover multiple times with silicone gasket and still use them but on the other hand but for 4 or 5 bucks I have used the cork gasket, it has never leaked, I never have had a reason to remove it (although I would like to know what the valve clearances are just for reference so may some year). This is going on over 24,000 miles and 8 years ago.

G'day, Phil, I have had a silicone valve cover gasket on the seven for about 3 years now. Purchased from supplier in USA along with similar item for TR6 and Spitfire (saved on multiple item postage). Absolutely no leaks and cover on the seven has been on and off numerous times as I chased a noisy cam follower/bucket for a period of time. Recommend apply a very small amount of silicon or hylomar gasket goo to hold the gasket onto cam cover for convenience. Much better than conventional cork based gasket. Rgds, DM

I have heard of problems with silicon hoses elsewhere, splitting/cracking etc. I guess the cam cover gasket is easier as it is under compression with very little pressure in the cover (hopefully).

I renewed all the hoses on my car with standard rubber about 5-6 years ago and have not had a problem yet so seem to be better than the rubbish gaiters available.
