1975 Triumph TR7 FHC - KDU 499N (KDU499N)

Postby trickyx12000 » 14 Aug 2012 16:53

at malvern i picked up another book on tr7-8

Well at the back a picture of a girl on a rally car. KDU499N..
well i have been looking for a picture of this car for a long time but all i have ever seen was KDU498-497N. and even KDU366N?
i was starting to think my memory was playing up.
does anyone know any thing about KDU499N. is she still running?
i use to see this car around the works (longbridge)in the 80's being privately own by a cooling engineer and being used as daily transport.
in 1988-89 i went to view her on a housing estate in halesowen with a veiw to purchasing the car but bottled it as she was looking a bit sad.. i was told she did a bit of privately entered rallying after..?

I bet you wish you didn't bottle it all those
years ago.

The good news is it's still showing on the DVLA database
but not been mobile for a very long time.

Vehicle enquiry
The enquiry is complete. The vehicle details for KDU 499N are:
Date of Liability 01 01 1990
Date of First Registration 15 07 1975
Year of Manufacture 1975
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1998cc
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type PETROL
Export Marker N
Vehicle Status Unlicensed
Vehicle Colour MULTI-COLOUR

I hope it's still out there.

Roy

The car is in the process of being totally rebuilt with a brand new shell. It was never a factory rally car, more of a press car.

hi when i saw it she had a standard engine in, the owner said he had brought her from BL motorsports and had once been fitted with a v8, but from her age i guess she would of had a sprint engine first off. she was in the later colours but i was told she had been in the earlier colours, which rings true with the picture i found the other day.

i'm still waiting for a friend of my to get me a picture of a sprint tr7 he had from the works and wrote off!! twice

Erm, call me shallow, but what happened to the girl?

Would it be terribly misogynist to suggest a feature on what became of the girls of British Leyland? I think I know the answer to this, apologies in advance..... (didn't one of them become an Archaeologist?)

Not nice calling that young lady an "it" but I'm sure she's retired by now.

Page 343 of Bill Price's book has an even better picture. The numberplate is obscured so we can only read 'KDU 4' but I think we now know which car it is. No doubt all of us on here have got Bill's book, haven't we?
