Hydrulic power steering

Hi, I seem to remember having seen in a post about a power steering system modified from another
car, I think maybe BMW that was from Australia ? I have done a search but can not find any thing.
Can any one help, thanks.

That would've been from a Suburu, I cant remember who did that now.

Hi, I have found this site today, www.triumphroverspares.com.au they do a ZF rack conversion from
$1500 that might be from a BMW.
Thanks for the Subaru tip Cobber I will look into that one to.

Sounds like a doubly expensive exercise, with ,more than one drawback to me.

First you have the expensive business of fitting the stuff.

Second you will have to join a gym to get the exercise you currently get for free, just driving your Triumph.

Thirdly you might find the little lady likes the thing, with light steering, & you'll be forever repairing the scratches & dents.

Leave it as it is, & keep that fine manly well musselled chest for longer.

It was Stag 76 the used a Subaru pwr steering rack,I believe it came from an "L" Series 84 -89 3rd gen wagon, Volvo tie rods & Ford pump.

As Cobber Says, Subaru 'L' Series Wagon Rack, Volvo tie-rods, TR7 tie-rod ends and Ford Pump.
I cut the TR7 Steering rod, and machined a spline to fit the standard Subaru coupling.
Pirtek made the hoses.
Mounting the pump was the hardest bit, and could probably be done better.

Total cost was approx. $400, which included a rebuild kit for the rack.

The result was really worth the effort. PAS and decent front brakes transformed the car.

I have a modified SD1 power rack but it was easier to fit due to having a V8. :)
Daihatsu Copen.
Wolfie, the TRV8.
Triumph Stag.
VW T4 2.5TDi Camper.

The trouble with using SD1 bits here in Oz is that they are starting to get a bit thin on the ground, but Subarus are stacked 10 deep at the wreckers, and I would imagine the situation in NZ is pretty much the same.
