Rain-X

Postby saabfast » 09 May 2015 14:44

Seen this recommended by a few on the forum and was not sure if this is a good deal or not.
I dropped the Saab into Halfrauds for an MOT this morning (passed with no attempt to persuade me to do advisory work of deteriorating CV boot other than suggesting it would be needed before next year - they still seem to be improving). Went for a wander around the retail park while waiting and in B&Q saw Rain-X at 'half price' reduced from £14.36 to £7.18 for 500ml bottle of '2 in 1 cleaner and repellant'. Decided I could do without it! Then went into Asda for a few bits and saw the same thing for £4! No idea how much it should be but I have bought one to try. Just looked on Amazon and it seems to be £8+ so might be a good buy if you are interested.

Hi,

We use it at work.... on BMW E93's ( 3 series Convertible ) they are prone to water leaks where rain water via capillary action can find its way over the top of the glass on the side windows, under the seal and onto the inside and run down the inside of the glass, always the front top edge of the glass, something to do with air pressure at a guess. Treat with Rain X on the edge of the glass and problem solved, and appears to last too.

Cheers John

I have used it in the past on the Integra but didn't like the way the wipers went over it. Didn't use it again. Took a long time to wear off. Not my cup of tea but each to his own.

Used it on motorbike crash helmet visors in the past, until I was told by a couple of police motorbike patrols not to.

Apparently it had a habit of making the plastic brittle and that's not a good thing if a stone is flicked up by the car in front.
