Headlights

My '76 FHC just started complaining about raising the headlights (and lighting them). The sidelights works on the first click, but nothing on the full click. The flash works when I pull the stalk including the pods raising.

Installed a brand new headlight switch and still the same.

This has happened a couple of times before but wiggling the switch sorted it, so presumed a new switch would fix it but must be a coincidence, or the socket to the switch is faulty and wiggling the switch fixed it.

It,s worth checking that the sockets that the switch push into in the connector are not being pushed out of the moulding when inserting the switch,Steve...

Agreed, the brass connectors in the white connector block behind the switch can get pushed back. With age they also coat themselves in a green powder which needs cleaning off.

Also check the other loom connections and earths from switch to motors. Under the fake speaker at the top if the dashboard and in the passenger footwell.

I would for sure try the connectors and the earth points in the engine bay. I spent some time recentpy cleaning and greasing all points possible to do with the lights. . When anyone has a problem with the lights not popping up, the first port of call always seems to be the earth connections. I remember some time ago i had issues with the lights coming on and the pods not moving. I later found out that the breaker switch had gone in the fuse box. You never know it may be two seperate issues here. I would clean all the connections though in the fuse box to be sure.

If you get to the breaker and need to check it. Take the two connections out of it and touch them together with a little lenght of wire. If the pods go up or down you know it has gone and needs replacing.
