Got a proper fettle on with the TR7 today. Got the drivers seat out to get it welded by a friend, following advice from this forum, which he did really well. But as ever you find scary things left by the last owner.
The seat was attached by only three allen bolts because one had sheared.
S and S told me the battery box in the boot needed securing, but I didn't realise it was held in with a couple of 10mm long skinny screws.

What have you found that worried you?

when working on the convertible i found a repair panel that had been braized, not even welded in two spots then filler popped over it....[:0]

When I became a wedge owner yearrrrrsss ago, I heard alll the horror stories about them. It wasnt till I got familiar with the cars that Most of the problems Ive ever encountered was Previous-owner related! Amazing how some people can attempt there own style of repairs.
First though that comes to mind was on my second TR8. The entire wiring harness from the fire wall to the headlights was strapped to the strut tower and getting pinched every time the hood was shut! That....took a loooong time to repair! (but I did it! [8D])

When removing the dash to replace the heater
I found a bee gees greatest hits cd hidden behind the dash!

Nothing scary really, but previous owner logically repaired broken headlight dimmer switch by installing old school, floor footswitch. Takes me back to my father's cars...i think I'll keep it. Also found: nothing so ultra-cool as Bee Gees, but a nice pair of '70s mirror shades under seat.

When I first got my car it came with speakers for the radio fitted into the rear panel behind the seats.
On removing them I found that the Numpty had cut through the rear bulkhead (by drilling a circle of holes and knocking it out with a hammer!) which had damaged the petrol tank behind it - needless to say, I no longer have speakers or holes in this position now!

Tom,
A proper fettle on means that I had a real good go at sorting annoying things on the TR which is a rare occurance due to work commitments and British weather.

My sister, English by choice and 2 marriages, is my translator and reporter for all things British (e.g., Oxford by a boat length) says 'high dudgeon' is righteous indignation.

Sorry about the weather, not too great in Pennsylvania either. Have to sand out 'boot and bonnet' indoors

a mate of mine once told me about when he and a group of mates brought a lotus 7 kit...
first thing they did was cut a slot in the transmission tunnel to slide the radio in!!
it wasn't long in the build before it got moved!

I found something non Wedge related a few years ago that scared me.

It was bonfire night, November 5th, and we were making a Guy Fawkes from old clothes. For the jacket we chose an ex-RAF battledress top that belonged to my Dad. Doing a final check of the pockets just before we put it on the bonfire I found a live 9mm round in one of the pockets.
That might have been a more exciting bonfire night than we expected!!
