Tyres

Postby claypole1360 » 20 Mar 2013 17:01

Hi all,
I want to tap the knowledge base here again.

I want to sprint and hilclimb the V8 thios year but need to buy 4 new tyres. I need optimum performance but the car is pretty much road going and at the same time, it needs to be useable on the road. I am limited to the blue book tyre list 1A for those in the know, but if anyone can suggest an excellent tyre (205-50 15 v rated) I would appreciate it.
I am currently interested in some Toyos proxes T1Rs but I have no idea if they suit rear wheel drive or not.
What is the perceived wisdom?
Thanks, Clayps.

What's that coming over the hill? Is it a monster?

They are good on my MG TF but there's probably more power in your car[}:)]

Me too Beans, me too, but not on my allowed list. I ran toyo semi slicks on my last sprint car, but that was in a different class so they were allowed. Is there soemthing wrong with thinking your Yokos are just a bit sexy? I'll get me coat.

You're right, they not only perform very well (NOT on durability [:D])
but also look really good on the car.
Looks like we both need counselling [:p]

It's annoying, the guy who had my 7 must have made tyres and wheels his first part of the restoration work that he did, the tyres are probably eight years old now and have less than 200 miles on them.
Good job they are not legal for my sprinting really.

Beans how do you find the AO48's?

Ive been looking at V70R Kumhos, ACB10's, R888's.. etc etc..

But im struggling to find a wide enough tyre for 9" rim (245/45or50/15)

The set pictured above came direct from Japan by plane.
The joys of someone with good contacts in Motorsport [:p]
But I have also used Demon Tweeks (they have rather low shipping costs to the NL).

And sadly your choice of tyre dimension isn't very common.
