air passage thru bulkhead/firewall

'tis the season for snow, which means the 2-wheel Triumph gets a SHORT break. I'm getting ready to return to the tr7 renovation, a burning question ...what's supposed to be in place in or over the fresh air passage thru the firewall (bulkhead)? my car had a piece of window-screen duct-taped in place to keep leaves, bugs &/or critters & birds out of the cabin. I've never been able to find any ref to a cabin air filter, which ought to be there- nothing in any parts catalog I've seen, or referred to in the Haynes manual.any suggestions welcomed- thanks!

Nothing there, just a big black hole. Cabin air filters were not invented yet...

Totaly spot on, [:p] however eventually they block up with crud, leaves etc and then no air good or bad can get in the car !!!

When I put the heater back in the car, I've placed a piece of fine mesh (normally used to keep the insects out) between the bulkhead and the heater. Works fine to keep the leaves out.

Agreed.

These so called pollen filters can be more expensive than the engine's air filter.

Yes, I work for a GM shop, and they can be more than double the price of a standard air-filtre

all that being said, I may make a frame to wrap something around. I've an almost endless supply of old t-shirts, to be backed up by a piece of fiberglass window screen, if nothing else. too buggy in these parts 6 months of the year...[:D]
