Wiper Motor Lubrication

Postby Rblackadar » 28 Nov 2011 16:44

Well after much research I think I may have found a solution for the Wiper motor/ Headlight motor lubrication question. Now that Ragosine Listate was the original lubricant and no longer produced (from what I understand) I have searched high and low for something that would be safe for plastic to plastic and metal to plastic gear mating. The product is Dow Corning Molykote 33 extreme low temperature bearing grease. It said it's safe for plastics and has named window wiper gearboxes as one of it's featured applications. So I'm going to order a tube and check it out. thought I would post this if anyone has any winter projects on their "to do" list.

Hey, Dude!

I did this about 4 months ago. I took everything apart, cleaned down to bear metal with Varisol, I used a stiff heavy wire to run the tubes with a strip of cloth and varisol. I took the motor abart and had it overhauled. When I reassembled very thing, I used MasterPro Multi-Purpose Super White Grease (Lithium Based - NLGI No.2) distributed by Ozark Automotive, Springfield, MO.

Wouldn't you know, I haven't driven the 7 in the rain since!

I did something similar in 2006/07. I used a clear synthetic grease. Not sure if it was high temp or high pressure spec.
