In retrospect, the most important modifications on 3 of my 7/8s has been relaying the headlight power.

Some suggestions...

To add to what Hasbeen said,I changed the headlamps from the original (yellowy) ones to halogen (bright white)ones. Big difference and not noticeable unless you have the lights on[:)]

You could also change/upgrade your shifter bushings to the newer poly ones...big improvement,and not anything someone would see/invisible.

Re-doing the seat suppor/foam (do a search on this site) is supposed to make the seats much more comfy,as most of them have had someone sitting on them for 30+ years with no change. I have not done this yet myself,as I enjoy the current condition of my stock seats.

K&N filter? Wouldn't see it,but it would have to be less restrictive than the stock paper one.

I removed my tail lights and stripped the remainder of that silvery film inside the metal bulb housings,then re-sprayed with heat-resistant aluminum paint. Lights look way brighter due to being far more reflective,and you don't have to change the wattage on the bulbs themselves.

Run weatherstriping down the vent window channel to reduce wind noise and water coming in. Only time you'll see/notice it is when the door is open.

Agree 100%, smoking brake pads, boiling brake fluid and locking up the front all too easily in the wet. Been there, done it but not all at the same time.

Again I agree with Hasbeen. I've locked up all four wheels in the rain and in the dry, I also locked up only the back wheels (it was around a curve and only the back stepped out a bit). They don't have the "depth" of the Toyota or the Acura (which is four wheel discs) but they aren't that far off. Haven't panic stopped the Toyota but I have the Acura when I hit a deer (no damage to deer (ultimately) or the car but like the TR7 you can't easily lock the brakes. Don't have occasion to use them repeatedly here so can't say how they react under constant use say like on the race track.

I have to agree with Headlights. Original TR7 headlights are now considered pathetic compared to the modern vehicles we often drive.

Most people on the road at night drive around you with confidence because they can see better with their modern headlights. Upgrading your TR7 to more modern headlights makes it possible for you to drive in the traffic stream with confidence. Finally you can drive at the speeds and following distances of the modern cars around you because you can now see well like them. This upgrade is simple and a real safety bonus.

Many things like rubber components in the suspension are really maintenance but I really appreciated my more up to date headlights. Yes relay them as well!

Electronic ignition is a pretty good thing too!
