WHat has your restoration of a Wedge cost so far?

Well, I paid $5,500 for the car in 1985. It was put into storage in 1987. I started the restoration in 2008, and so far I've got approximately $6,500 in it, and expect that I will need about $3,000 to finish it. I'm going for as close to original as possible, as it sat the day I purchased it in 1985 with 15K miles on it.

cost $2200 when bought running. $450 for primer, filler and paint. $250 for new tires. about $150 for engine gaskets and bearings and chain. $400 for pair of su carbs. hundreds of hours of work, including welding patch panels, sanding and painting. new brake pads. 4 years of registration renewals, and still coughs and back-fires when I try to drive it around the block. Sitting under a cover under snow for the past 4 months and my old-car buyers guide says I should be able to resell it for $3,000- 4,000. Ac doesn't work, but radio does. I guess I love doing it, because even on a bare-bones restoration, what was I thinking!

Ya, something I forgot to mention in my post.....

...some of my past wedges didnt cast much to get going, some I spent wayyyy too much $ on (like my old Triton-Green TR8, Car & Driver cover car I once owned)
but I will never recoup the countless hours spent on each one!! If you compared the time I spent on all my wedges, compared to the $ spent...time is wayyyy ahead! LOL [:o)]

I spent over £10,000 on my first TR7, so this time I made a decision to not bother adding up the cost of the TR8. If I can afford it I have it & if I can't I save up until I can! [:D]

[Workshop Help]

Well, as long as SHE gets to drive it, things should be okay. You might also get her out in the machine shed to help bleed the brakes or the clutch.

The more involved SHE is in this joint project, the better for all concerned.

Well done Jolyon, your car looks great, (I've seen it guys!) Don't worry about the money, think, "I'll always have enough", and you will always have enough. Its all about the pleasure and pride, remember: you're a long time dead!

Jolyon, I love the colour of your car, but tell me, does your lady know you drove it on the dressage arena? You are brave.

Mildred, "that ain't necessarily so", & sometimes doesn't work.

Before I even started racing, I caught & trained a young one. She would sit quite happily beside me chatting, as I slid my Morgan +4 sideways into a corner at 90+ MPH. She loved motor racing, & was even helpful with preparation.

However, when I retired & went sailing, the first time she saw a sea more that 5Ft high, the only time she stopped screaming, was to lean over the side, & feed the fish.

Many years later I met a lady who can happily take the wheel of a yacht surfing down huge seas, so I can go forward, & remove a sail or two.

However the first time I approached 60 MPH in a car with her, she punctured the seat cushion with her finger nails, & squealed louder than a badly slipping fan belt.

Sadly, some ladies & cars, just don't mix.

Hasbeen, I know were you're coming from. The neighbour and I took the wife sailing in his 24 footer day sailer. Although the wind was light, just enough to tilt it a bit, she still left fingernail marks in the teak grip rails. Said she'd never do it again. Anything smaller than a ferry is too small for her. Never complained about my driving but complains that the traffic is too noisy, the fresh cut hay smells too sweet, it's too windy, the traffic exhaust is too smelly, the seats aren't comfortable. We'll see how she handles our 3,000+ trip down to Anaheim.[:p]
