Waterpump spindle

Postby Bobbieslandy » 26 May 2010 21:01

Hi,

just a quick one! on overhauling my water pump i put the spindle in the lathe to turn off some of the corrosion which was only a very light surface rust and immediately noticed the spindle was bent, probably a couple of mm from center. Probably wouldn't cause much trouble but was enough for me to pull another spindle from a spare engine and use that as it was straight as a die.

Suppose i'm trying to say "check it just in case"

Rob.

Finally overhauled my waterpump, i can't believe how cheap and nasty the new bearing is. Are they all like that and has anyone had one fail not long after overhauling it (due to defective parts)?

I only overhauled one waterpump in 22 years of TR7 ownership.
And that one is still lying with the other spare parts in the attic.

Fingers crossed this lasts 22 years! i think in future if i have to overhaul it again, or the engine comes out for some reason then i might change the bearing for one from a known manufacturer and not use the one that comes as part of a kit. I Didn't realise wedgie ownership could be so educational[:D]
