TR7 ute

Postby dursleyman » 24 Feb 2015 09:52

Guy called Mathiesen Norgaard put this up on the TR7 Owners Facebook page and I thought our Aussie mates might like it. He apologised for his drawing skills but looks good to me.
Nothing like a nice Ute?

Looks very nice Russ, but it is more a pommy ute than an Ozzie one.

They have to be very ugly, & 4 wheel drive to make it here.

Looks good, but I think the seat would need to be too far forward for me to be able to drive.

Interesting notion. Though if I were to do it, I probably wouldn't cut the B pillars, but leave them and the rear window, it'd save a lot of work. though the tray opening would be small and you'd need to do a tail gate so the tail lights and rear panel would need to get the chop and I'd cut the rear deck otherwise it'd just look like the bootlid is missing, having done that, you'd need to relocate the fuel filler.

Probably not very practical due to the small tray and limited load carrying capacity, but it's fun to think about.
I might even do some measurements before I write-off the idea.

Purists, don't panic, I'm not seriously entertaining doing this, I'm just playing with the concept.

It would certainly be limited load capacity.

I once carried 10 of 10 Kg bags of kitty litter, [don't ask], in the boot of my 7. With a passenger & that load it felt dangerously light at the front. With the people out we could lift the front enough for the wheels to be almost off the ground, with little effort.

I've filled the trunk with bamboo hardwood flooring a few times and can't remember how many 2'x 2' concrete blocks home from Home Hardware. Didn't do any hard driving as I didn't want them to shift in the trunk.

Spitfire has already been done (4x4 anyway).

The Wedge pickup certainly looks the part.

I lived and worked in Copenhagen about 7 years ago. The car tax in Denmark was exorbitant but a lot less for utility vehicles.

It was common to see front engined Porsche pick-ups and single seat Range Rovers with van like interiors including a floor to ceiling partition behind the driver. These were registered as commercial vehicles saving their owners many krone in tax. That Wedge would fit straight in.

I believe the taxation loophole was closed several years ago.

There is a picture of a 4x4 TR7 with a landrover front grill and a hatchback that looks like a pickup camper clam shell back. I will find it and post tomorrow.

How about grafting a second Tr7 rear end on to make it longer and 6 wheeler?
