MGF front disc

All The other day I saw in Rimmer's ad that they had vented / slotted front discs for sale from the MGF. Has any one in the UK looked into whether these disc would fit the TR7 and what it would take to adapt them? Would the MGF caliper fit the Tr7?

Hi Dale,

Not really looked into this one myself but the MGF disc fits on top of the hub, located by a countersunk screw where as on ' ours ' the disc goes behind the hub with threaded holes to attach the hub, not saying it cant be done though. I did look at using them on the rear of my DHC but Maestro discs were cheaper ! Plus being Metro based on the MGF the hub would be smaller.

One thing myself Mr Wood and myself were looking at set of MGF Trophy front caliper's at Stoneliegh Resto Show and looking at the possible use on ' our ' car's ??? Naturally mill of the MG logo [^] Made out alloy and 4 pot may have possibility's. May have a play over the winter.

I have had a pair of MGRV8 calipers for abot 15 years, never measured them but perhaps they could fit.

Any up dates on this subject would be appreciated. I am still a ways from putting brakes on this project. If I can find available parts, such as the MGF, that would replace the stock weak brakes then taht would be a plus.

I have fitted a set of MG TF160 Callipers and 305mm discs to my 7
Had to drill out the thread in the struts as the calliper of the MG has thread.
MG has 16" wheel so had to dress the callipers slightly to clear the 15" wheels on my car.
Cleaned up centre bore of disc to fit on hub and drilled 4 holes to bolt on to hub.
The rears complete with MG master and booster will do in this December.

Hi Bill,

Nice job mate, looks like mine and Mr Wood's suspicion was right they will fit ( can be made to fit should I say ) and inside 15 inch wheels, I am sure a standard Trophy were 16 inch. The ' bell ' on the MGF disc does not look as deep as the TR7's ? no clearance issue with the tyre and strut [?]

Callipers fitted to the outside of strut mounting and align perfectly with the MG disc. Used crimp lock nuts with high grade bolts to fit discs.

The modern conversion? Princess 4-pots are hard to find nowadays.

A conversion used in Australia incorporates a Subaru Disc and Holden Caliper.

Continuing with the MGF brake parts possibilities a supplier in Cheshire has developed a 280mm brake disc kit for MGF's which may be of interest for TR7 or TR8 conversion.

The enlarged discs are well thought of by MGF owners who have converted and they may be of a size more suitable for TR7/8.

They seem to be well priced too.

I have no connection with the supplier by the way, he's Cheshire and I'm Lancashire.

According to the EBC catalogue the MG F Trophy disks are 24/22 thickness, 304mm diameter, and 39mm height. That compares to 57mm height TR7 disk.

I personally found it easier to go Hi-Spec front setup.

Ahh but where is the fun in that [;)] If I had to do my DHC again would have brought a set of those but at the time they were not available

There is no way MGF set up will fit inside my wheel's so not at the moment but if I ever come across a cheap pair may have a ' play '
