Reliability on the 40th Anniversary

Postby REPLIC8 » 22 Sep 2014 06:04

Just a thought, did anyone break down over the anniversary weekend? I didn't see any bonnets up in lay-bys, and everyone appeared to arrive at all their destinations without problems. With over 100 TR7/8s travelling a combined mileage of 10's of thousands of miles it would seem our cars are actually very reliable. [:D]

Hi Andy,

As far as I am aware we had a bad connection on a alternator in Coventry, sorted by a RAC man before I got there, I had a boot full of tools and spares etc. as did Gaz. Plus Mr Turner had a slight engine issue, that was not suitable to be repaired road side.

But other than that no problems, saw a lot more ' modern cars ' broken down that's for certain !!!

Mine didn't miss a beat all weekend, she done me proud [^]

Cheers John

I did around 650 miles without a problem - I think it did the car good to have a blast!

I know Phil Lines in the white FHC was concerned about a possible water pump leak before leaving Gaydon but I did not see him at the side of the road on the way home so presume all was well.

1000 miles or so bumbling around Kent, South Wales, North Wales, Nuneaton and Speke before arriving at Gaydon, then 200 miles home. Ran like a well-oiled sewing machine, and clocked 100,000 just as we approached the Saturday-night Hotel!

The BIG 100,000 was celebrated by a 'fly-past' of three cars - Mr Clancy, Alan and Angela! Who said that a four-pot can't fly? He was keeping up pretty well from where I was sitting!

I clocked up 701 miles over the weekend (the last 205 miles pulling a caravan I collected on the Sunday evening on my way back to Northumberland). All in a 4-speed car averaging about 38mpg without any issues at all. Great fun and well done to everyone involved.

Sorry chaps, I might have let the side down, after years of trouble free TR motoring my newly rebuilt engine started making a strange noise on the way to Solihull. Brilliant service from the RAC and a super ride in Mark Coxs Range Rover took us to Gaydon and all the way back to Sheffield. Thanks to everyone who stopped and offered help especially Mark(Coxy)on here for driving my wife and myself home.

Glad to say the 7 is one of the most reliable cars I have had (hugging a tree!). This year it did not skip a beat going to Billing and again on Sunday around 270 miles without a problem. The only time I have lifted the bonnet was to check the oil and it does not use any. Not bad for a '70's car with 86k on it, although I put a lot down to the electronic ignition.

Commiserations to those who had a problem.

We don't know how many miles we did but at least 800. I checked the oil the day before we left and upon arriving home I haven't looked at it. I was too busy to raise the bonnet for anyone at Gaydon so I suppose we did getting on for 1000 miles without even checking the oil. I'll be disappointed if it's not reading the same as before we left.

37 years old and more comfortable and more fun to drive than anything on the road to day. Gordon B. proved they bloody well handle too!!!

i'm also pleased to report that were no issues with mine ran like a dream with just over 413 miles driven on the day.
Chris T I felt for you it wasn't that long ago I was at the side of the road on the way to Billing before my TR7 came to an abrupt halt.

But i wonder what the outcome would have been if that many TR7's/8s left the factory in 1974 and did the same amount of accumulative miles, how many would have completed...........

We only traveled 152 miles, not a lot compared to most but it performed great with no problems at all,so,after a great day at Gaydon a very good drive home it turned out to be a brilliant week-end.

Congratulations to everybody who took part in the drive from Speke and also to all involved in the organisation of this event.

Cheers
Moe

Not a breakdown as such.. lost about an hour fixing it back together. Vicki is 38 years old and mechanically unrestored... never missed a beat.
