In fact, their website seems to list the correct one.

Measuring the one I have:

A: 60mm
B: 185.5mm
F1: 350n
Dia.: 6mm

And, actually says part number 082392, so is the exact same part I have and still being manufactured.

We have people in Oz who recharge gas struts.

They simply put them into a pressure chamber & pressurize it to the required pressure for a set time. ours are one of the highest pressure. The charge can move in past the one directional seals, but can't get out easily.

I have had mine done twice now. A charge appears to last about 8/9 years.

We have a guy in Vancouver that does it, ironically he's from New Zealand. Nobody born here would think of that, we just throw away and buy new.

Well there you go.

There is a new business for a couple of us, each side of the Atlantic. Here in Brisbane, population about 1.5 million I think, there are 4 people full time on the road doing it from vans. & a couple of small fixed shops. Car sales yards supply more than half their trade.

All it requires is a 4/5 foot long heavy wall steel tube pressure vessel with a bolt on end, some high pressure hose, & a high pressure pump.

You simply pop the struts, as many you can fit in the tube, & pump it up to the required pressure. Our struts are something over 400 PSI, one of the highest my bloke finds. The pressure pushes through the seals, & that is it. My bloke pumps up to about 1200 PSI when doing mine, & charges less than $10 each.

Sounds like an obvious idea, wonder why more folk are not doing it.

What gas do they use?

The ones who sell new struts here carry them with no pressure in them, & pressurize them when they are sold.

mine are totally shot and dont hold the boot open,

Don'y know how well the recharged ones hold up (Hasbeen can input on that one). My new set are going onto year 8. It's something I wouldn't buy used as they may only last a few years.

So did I.
When the second set quit (bought brand new mind you!) after one winter hibernation in a warm dry garage
- I decided enough was enough. And then sourced a lower bracket (plus the stay itself) from a rusted out hulk
in Ramsbottom.

Developed a means of fitting it without welding to my already painted '80 body. Istr this have already been an
article in the TRDC magazine?

Later did the same to dads '81 FHC. We've never looked back since...

A friend has the slide support on his '79 and when he/someone lowered the trunk lid it didn't release and bent his trunk lid which now sits high on the left hand side. He wants to upgrade to piston lifts so it doesn't happen again (will need new trunk lid as it will be difficult/impossible to get the subtle bed restraightened). Hasn't done it yet as he's been too busy getting his 16v sorted.

First lift (so the catch disengage) - then lower the lid carefully. Easy as anything for any-one with 'feel'...

That's fine if you do it that way every time but what happens in the real world is you start doing that faster and faster until that one time when you're in a hurry because you went to get a beer from the cooler in the trunk and you wanted to get back to the campfire so you didn't miss out on the story currently being told and the catch doesn't release and presto you are looking for another trunk lid and a professional painter with a good reputation for match new and old paint jobs or worse your brother-in-law goes to get the beer and he slams the trunk with out the catch being released and he can't pay you for it because he's unemployed.
