I have finally used the last of a tub of Castrol FCB grease that I have had in the garage for ages - maybe 15/20 years.
What do you guys recommend for general use like wheel bearings etc nowadays in the UK?

I don't know that I would call wheel bearing grease general usage grease. I'd get a tub of wheel bearing grease (stated as such on the packaging) of what ever brand is well known in your neck of the woods. I picked up some neat red stuff a couple of years ago (my old Quaker State stuff was green).

I haven't bought any for a while either but wheel bearings need high melting point grease like Castrol LM. Can't remember what brand I have in the workshop atm but I think it is still called LM.

Just googled and LM is still available generally. FCB (which I had not heard of) seems to be a 'rally' version.

I use Silkolene grease ('t Kreng) or SKF bearing grease (DHC)

Anything as long as it says high melting point. I use some Silkolene grease on my bikes which is also waterproof. Sounds strange but it's a bit more clingy.

I use a clay based high temperature waterproof grease, used in racing wheel bearings. It was supplied by Shell, but is not labeled as Shell.

I actually found it for my traveling irrigators. They have water at pressure spraying everywhere, washing the grease out of them.

Beans, I didn't realise Silkolene was still going. I used to run Silkolene Pro4 oil in my Alfa Romeo rally engine back in early 1980's. We had a contact there who did us a good deal because it was pretty expensive stuff.

Thanks guys, looks like Castrol LM is easy available and a good choice.

Delving deep in the memory I seem to recall the Castrol FCB might have been some waterproof stuff we used to use on the trailer because of all the abuse trailers get.
