Correct wiper blades.

Postby Dave Dyer » 25 Jun 2014 14:25

I'm looking to order a pair of wiper blades, am I right in thinking they are 16 and 18 inches?

Also I bought a cheap pair recently, advertised for a TR7 but they didn't have the correct fitment. Mine look like they have a 'pin' mounting them, is this right for all TR7s?

And lastly has anyone tried the newer style Aero type wipers, or would they look out of place!

Thanks,
Dave

Yes they use two different sizes wipers, the smaller one goes on the arm with the pantograph setup. I believe the two sizes are 16" and 17".

The wipers are pin mounted as you suspected.

I am not familiar with the Aero wipers.

I think the aero wiperws look out of place. IMHO off course.

Many replacement blade assemblies will accept a pin, but don't include it in the kit. You may be able to remove the pin from the old blades, or they are available separately.

Stevie - I tried the Rain-X and it certainly helps - but I still need the wipers, at least below 70 mph......

Dave

You are correct on the lengths 18 & 16.

Try James Paddock in Chester use to have the 16 one still, so might be worth a try. Lot of people now just use two 16.

I just slip generic refill rubber blades into the existing carrier, about every 2 years or so.

I have to agree with Stevie a, they aren't much use, & I only use them if it is not raining, but the screen is getting dirty water off the tyres of a car in front.

I use mine whether it's pouring down rain or just needing a swipe to clear the misty rain off the windscreen like Father's day. A get the refills and cut to size but with anything rubber get a brand name if you can.

So for those of you that say the wipers don't do much, what is the problem? Mine work fine, and we get our share of rain here. I also like the intermittent setting (one they actually designed!).

If you use the correct wipers that bend in the middle they are superb, if you use the modern aftermarket versions they are not so good.

I ran into this. Explained to a counter guy at a real parts house, he pulled out a box of pins - we dug around for 2-3 minutes and found just what we needed.

I find the wipers work well enough - especially the delay wipe function - but the Rain=X does help....

Thanks Chaps,

I have read good reviews of the Rain X. But I just need to fit some wipers first! Yes I agree some wipers don't include the pin, I can't use my old pins as I've thrown them away!

Jim, yes James Paddock, I have used them alot (they offer free postage) so I'm going to get them from there. I used to go upto them years ago and sell them TR7 bits and get money knocked off, I wish I had those spares now instead of selling them!

Slight change of subject, I've booked today off to take my TR7 round the front of the house and run it up and down my road. First time I've ever done this, I've had it 7 years and done masses of work (still a bit to do, interior etc), so at last that day has arrived and strangly I feel quite nervous!

Dave
