Carpet in the boot

I always enjoy seeing other's pictures and ideas. I've just completed the carpeting in the boot of the yellow FHC, and I'm very happy with my attempt.

In one of the parts manuals there is a picture of a moulded carpet for the 1981 onwards tr7's (I have seen a photo of one car with this, but think it was something which never really happened.)

(I think this is what BL would have done if they had carried on making the TR7 like the Italians did with the X1/9 - looks really good!!!)

This looks very nice, it is something that I have thought about doing for a long tome now, but I have just not got around to it. You have good results there though, something to be proud of. Have you thought about posting the measurements on here as it looks like you have a nice fit. We could get them easy enough, but as you have done it and it looks good, it could be a nice template for the rest of us to follow :-)

The vinyl pad is easier to clean, just a wipe with a damp cloth, don't have to get the vacuum out.[:p]

Thanks Ron. The logo was made by building up pieces of 'plasti-core', then pressing the carpet all around. There is sound deadening (B-Quiet) glued down to all of the metal first, then the carpet. I've also used a couple of LED light strips to illuminate the now even darker area.

Nice job, didn't notice the ' TR7 ' logo first look [:o)] nice touch.

Tony on here has a BL experimental sound proofing kit in his TR7 FHC, I am sure I have seen the remains of another kit in a car, it shows that they at least thinking about doing something but guess it as ever came down to Â£Â£Â£Â£Â£Â£Â£Â£Â£

Oh yes the good old LED lights in the boot. I have brought a few from ikea and stuck them to the top of the boot. When I have a bit more time, I will look at fixing them up so they come on when the boot is opened. Until then, I have to press them to get them on. Still better than nothing though lol.

Wasn't the other car with the boot liner, the late TR8 with the interior trim changes that was at Billing last year?

I bought the two 12" white LED stips at Princess Auto. I haven't wired them to the switch yet, but I think I run power to the pos. and the neg. to the switch. The stips are stuck under the top of the boot opening (the rain channel). I'll get a picture at night to see the effect.

Thinking of doing the same so I would be interested in how it looks.
I was also thinking of putting them under the dash but 12" maybe over the top so I'll see if their available in 4 or 6".
Now that I think of it the glove box is pretty dark!

Yeah I think you are right mate, silver Exp. car with the brown trim etc. makes sense it would have it fitted too.

Nice job there Fastman, the logo is a neat touch.

BL did indeed have the experimental boot liner in development, it even appears in one edition of the late parts catalogue. It is made of a kind of moulded polystyrene, it is rather thin & flimsy. I don't know how well it would have stood up to day to day use & abuse!

As stated, it never appeared in a production car but is known to have been fitted to at least 3 of the development cars at Canley Engineering - X925 is the car mentioned with the different interior trim, also another of the X series TR8 DHCs now owned by a TRDC member, & my TR8 coupe - this is the only known coupe version as obviously the DHC version is slightly different due to the different boot bulkhead shape.
