Radio speaker fitting.

Just a quick question about the fitting of a centre radio speaker. I note from the workshop manual entry that Mildred has contributed that it seems that the existing grille is replaced once the speaker has been installed. However mine has no slits or vents for the speaker in the vicinity of the speaker. Is this because mine is a later model or did it just happen to escape this process? supercass

I have original speakers in my 8. The grill is an integral part of the speaker and therefore the whole speaker is very thin. The speker has 4 integral bolts that are secured on the inside of the door card and therefore invisible from the outside. However this means that the door card supports the weight of the speakers on 4 bolts that are very close to the edges of the hole for the speaker. I have used a piece of stainles steel plate with a circulr hole for the speaker plus its 4 bolt holes and have therfor spread the load over a greater area of the door card.

Early cars indeed have a grill on top of the dashboard.
Later cars have a closed (ribbed) panel.
I don't know when exactly this Change was made, probably during the production in Speke.

What is interesting is that there is another part fitted below the grill, which must be a dust filter (or anti-vibration mat?) ZKC1773. Later models just had XKC2419.

Yes, that's right. The piece below the grill is a bit of vinyl. Most likely to cover the wires from being seen through the grill.
