Finally went to get the car from storage today .....

Had a good chuckle as the TR started on first shot (much to the suprise of the onlookers) yet the bosses Z06 'vette had to be towed out as it would no longer reconize the key fob and went into antitheft mode [}:)]


Fun didn't last for long though, as on the way home the car developed a fast idle and the gas pedal was very stiff. It's had the symptom before so I tried to kick it down which then became a wot throttle going downhill!!!!
I immediately killed the ignition and coasted to a stop fortunately I was alone on the road, so didn't crap myself too bad [:I]

After flicking around with the throttle cable and linkages I got the thing to idle around 2000rpm and linped THE 5KM ride home on fast idle....

I have a spare cable in the garage so I'll start by installing this , but any thing else I should look at ??

Fun times are coming for you Ron.

I used to have a sticking throttle problem with a Company mini I was unlucky enough to drive for a while.

The service included oiling the throttle cable every service. It only took a few days for the oil to gather dust, & the thing to become sticky. Kicking the accelerator would sometimes get it to idle, but usually it would be revving at 2500 to 3000 when sitting.

Washing the cable out with petrol or similar was the only solution.

Love that. Just don't let them know about the problems on the way home.[:p]

Besides the cable, which should be looked at first, how about worn throttle shaft bushings? They can let in air (raising idle) and I believe can bind, not allowing throttle to come to rest. Not so easily changed but can be done.

Check for proper engine ground. I once had a sticking throttle and found a loose engine ground and the engine was grounded through the glowing gas cable!!

Wow Paul , that's a new one for me, but it could make sense though as I didn't notice the problem when cold....

That's my biggest fear actually Merv .... I know I'm going to need to rebuild the carbs sooner than later .....just didn't want to now!
