Wires for an inside rear light

Postby UKPhilTR7 » 28 Apr 2014 02:00

This may be a bit long winded, but please stay with me :)

I have a later 7 and I really like the idea of the light towards the back of car, above the parcel shelf, like the early 7's had.

I have one of the lights in question and I can feel that the hold for it is still there in the roof metal work, under the inside roof lining. So I am going to cut the liner, insert the light and have light where there was once dark. or that is the plan on paper.

The light I have has two wires in it, which when I connect to the door wires, comes on and then goes off when the door is opened. All is looking and sounding good so far.

So my question is; does anyone know if the wires needed for this light are still in the car above the roof liner and they just didn't take it out, or will I need to pass wires up to fit it all in? I was hoping someone can throw some light on this before I go through the painful process of hunting for two wires and cutting the roof liner, only to find that they are not there.

Hopefully, if the wires are already there and I just need to locate them, that should be quicker than having to put new ones in from the doot to make the the rear light come on when the doors is opened and closed.

Any help anyone can give would be great.

It seems a lot of work to run wires if your interior is not already stripped out (which it isn't). Have you thought of putting a battery powered light there (an LED?)

Hi Mike, thanks for the email. I did get it late yesterday after I posted this. My wife picked it up so I never got the email alert and only told me about it when I got home. There was some interesting stuff in it. The main bit the I took from it was that the hole is there but not the wires. That is going to ne fun to do lol.

Oh yes I thought of one of them, but like it to come on when the other two light come on.
