Seat Fabric

Postby RJS » 04 Apr 2014 14:39

Previous owner redid the seats, door cards, and carpet. The seats and door cards have matching fabric that looks good on the car.

The bottom section for one seat is getting some rips, but everything else looks pretty good. I hate to replace everything because of one section (plus I don't have the money for this right now anyway).

Has anyone ever seen this pattern before, and if yes any ideas if it is still available?

or....

Any idea if something like this can be repaired?

Thanks,
Rob

Is it possible to contact the prior owner to determine where the upholstery came from? Otherwise, you're stuck with either a complete re-do,(which is expensive), or find a complimentary or even contrasting patterns. The last option is to order from V-B a set of seat savers to fit over the seats for about $100.00 plus shipping.

Looks similar to mine except more of a herring bone pattern. Mine were reupholstered sometime prior to 1985 as they were on the car when the previous owner bought the car. They still look like new 30 years later and look like they belong with the grey Spider carpet. Couldn't be happier with them. I haven't a clue where it was done or anything about it as I never tracked down the original owner. It illustates the fact if the right material is used it will last a long time. I've seen one car where the reupholstered seats only lasted a few years before the UV destroyed them.

Id try the local seat trimmer/upholstery shops in your area and see what they could find.... the glass repair guy that I deal with through the shop has almost an identical blue cloth as my car...only a real fanboy would know once he's done!

UPDATE

I found a local guy that had access to some fabric that is pretty close, and he did it for $90. It is not a perfect match, but it is pretty good, and I am happy.

I am still going to get some cheap covers to protect the seats from sun damage.

Yes - he replaced both the black and striped, and then kept the vinyl.
