Is there a 3rd option with the later plastic wheel trims?

They had the scallops painted black. My car went into Grinnall's bodyshop with the earlier version and exited with the latter.

Personally, I prefer the alloys.

Why do you call them TR8 wheels?
They were standard fitment to TR7 DHC's sold over here in the NL.
So more TR7 than TR8 I'd say [:p]

Standard on the Spiders (all 2,000 of them, albeit a silver colour rather then the TR8 green tinged ones) and optional on the other TR7's except 30th Anniversary which had beauty rings so I suspect there where more TR7's than TR8's with the alloys.

I always like the alloys over most other types of alloys as they where unique to the Wedge and just seemed to "fit" the shape and the time (I know there was another make that had similar design but it was different when side by side).

Depends on the cars colour – alloys look better on lighter colours & the original plastic covers on darker cars.
Your car should have the later black insert on the wheel trims which can lift the look.
Me I go for alloys on a gold car & plastic on my dark burgundy red one as that’s how it was delivered to the 1st owner who didn’t buy the optional alloys for the DHC. ( Standard on the FHC)

Oh is that Carmichael's Garage Sticker in the back window from Edinburgh as I see you have a SC Registration.They had 3 Garages in Edinburgh in the 1980's ?

I made the same change from cheap plastic hubcaps to a set of Spider alloys. A big improvement, both in the look and in eliminating the 55 mph front end shake.

<font color="maroon">Yes indeed it is. The first owner was in fact Carmichael Baxter Ltd (the car was perhaps a demonstrator?) and the second keeper was "David A Hall Ltd" (Hall's of Broxburn - of Sausage fame!).</font id="maroon">
