Headlamp wiring

Postby jrich4411 » 16 Apr 2014 23:46

So I am finally nearing the end of a 5 year resto project. (that is before I decide on the next round of upgrades). So I am trying to reinstall the headlamps. I clearly remember in my mind's eye that there are 2 3 prong connectors and 2 single prong connectors in each headlamp bay - from having had 3 TR7's in the last 25 years. 1-3 prong connector for the headlamp motor and 1-3 prong connector for the high/low beams. Oh, and the 2 single connectors that I have no idea what they are for, but one is male & one is female, so easy to distinguish.
So now I look in the headlamp bays and this is what I see (I apologize for the low quality pics but it's in a body shop covered in dust). There is a whole lotta over spray from at least 2 paint jobs, which covers the wiring colors, complicating the whole process.

So I have 3-3 prong female connectors and the 2 singles in the headlamp bay. I have the headlamp motor connectors and the headlight connectors. It doesn't match up!

I am looking for any and all help here to sort this out. Also, Does anyone have have a wiring diagram that they can send me?

Thanks!

Perhaps a little scotch-brite pad would reveal the colours?

Thanks for the suggestion. Identifying the colors isn't my issue here. Looking at them live it is possible to figure out what color each wire is. My main issue is that i recall that there should be 2 3-prong connectors in the headlamp bay. One for the motor and one for the head light.
I am also still looking for a wiring diagram. anyone here know where I can purchase & download a service manual?

I think Fastman was talking about the colour of the connectors.

The TR7 manual can be downloaded from jclay's site - see the link at the bottom of one of his posts. I think he also has wiring diagrams on there, for a TR8 but most of it is the same.

Your memory is fine [:D]
Clearly some work was done somewhere in the past, looks like they bypassed a set of wires.
If I were you I'd pull the complete loom out and inspect and rectify where necessary.
